Anmchara educates and feeds 350 students daily
Who we are
Anmchara.org is the Irish charity (registration number 20206684) set up to support the Anmchara International School in Sege, Ghana. Anmchara.org is operated by the three trustees, Tim, Ross and Godwin. Tim and Ross work in Dublin Ireland and Godwin is the Principal of the School and lives in Ghana.
Fun Fact: Anmchara means "soul friend" in Irish. Anmchara.org takes its name after the school. When Godwin the principal was thinking of a name for the school he came across the name and liked the sound of it. It's a great coincidence that he picked an Irish name.
What we do
The goal of our charity is to advance the education of pupils at Anmchara International School located in the village of Sega in Ada, Ghana by providing and assisting in the provision of facilities of the school. We also leverage our experience and assist with advice, planning and budgeting for the school and its students. The charity does not contribute to the day-to-day expenses of the school which as mostly funded by contributions from parents.
About the school
Anmchara International School is located in the Volta region just outside Kasseh in Kajanya. The Volta region is one of the poorer parts of Ghana and still struggles with high levels of child labour which means school completion rates are very low.
It is a 2 hour drive east of Accra. A link to google maps can be found HERE. It provides education to boys and girls from the ages of 3 up to 16 through the Nursery, Primary and Junior High School programs. The school is planning to operate a Senior High School program soon.
The school was founded in January 2002 by Godwin Agudey who left a job working at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in the city of Tema in order to establish the school. This decision was made after attending a funeral in Sega one day, and noticing all of the children running around the village with nothing to do.
Our impact so far
With the help of our donors, volunteers, and supporters, Anmchara.org has already made a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people in Sege village here are a few of our recent projects....
- Completion of the computer lab for both pupil and adult learning
- Provision of IT equipment in the computer lab including a projector
- Provision of WiFi to the school
- Provision of new beds and mosquito nets in the dormitory
- Emergency support for the faculty during the Covid 19 pandemic
- Repair and maintenance of the fresh water pump and tap for the school
- Refurbishment of the school library with is available to local residents
